  3. 1903. He was executed as a Republican
  4. terrorist. Before turning to Irish politics,
  5. Childers was a clerk in the House of Commons
  6. in London. In 1921 he was elected to the
  7. Irish Parliament as a supporter of the Sinn
  8. Fein leader de Valera, and took up arms
  9. against the Irish Free State 1922. Shortly
  10. afterwards he was captured, court-martialled,
  11. and shot by the Irish Free State government
  12. of William T Cosgrave.
